Ashes to ashes, 2020

Film and ceramic

In Chinese mythology, humans are made from clay, hence in this artwork, the disintegration of the flower into the soil is symbolic of one returning to where one came from, representing the cycle of life. The chrysanthemum, symbolizing the artist's great-grandmother, is depicted as receiving a dwindling amount of water which supposedly nurtures life.
