A Raven's Greed, 2020

Pencil, ink, gouache and colour pencil on watercolour paper

42.8cm X 30.1cm

The artwork explores the idea of using mythical animals to portray current world issues. With close reference to animal symbolism and mythical legends, A Raven’s Greed is a portrayal of global warming from the artist’s perspective. Inspired by a Chinese myth, the turtle is a representation of earth that is mantled in forests and landforms. The ravens with skull heads surround the turtle and form a frame. Their skulls and black smoke exhaled by the ravens symbolise greed and destruction.
