Oil pastels and acrylic on paper

29.7cm X 42cm

The artwork aims to explore the decay and deterioration of human skin that comes with age through the portrait of the artist's grandfather. Hues of blue, pink, and green incorporated in the artwork contrast with the dull and dreary colours of brown and greys used to show the bleak and depressing reality of ageing. In contrast, the brighter colours are meant to highlight the less apparent beauty of ageing. In addition, the wrinkles and creases of the skin reflect the years of experience and struggles in a person's life and not just their age and decay. Overall, the harsh reality of ageing comes hand in hand with the unconventional beauty of ageing.
