Missing Pieces, 2020

Paper, ballpoint pen, colour pencil, pencil

37.8cm X 27.7cm

In this puzzle, once the pieces are lost, they cannot be found again. The artwork depicts the head of a mammoth as a puzzle, a creature that has become extinct due to climate change. Three distinct pieces can be made out; the head, tusk and an extra piece. Colours take on particular meanings in the artwork. The blue conveys the melting ice caps of today, pink for preciousness, and the dull colours for decay. The surrounding blank space conveys punishment, and the gaps in the head suggest the disappearance of the arctic ice of today, just like the glaciers during the time of the mammoths.
